I don’t think he’s entirely wrong. No, it wasn’t sold here, but they sold approximately fifty billion of them in Europe. You could probably import one for like half of the asking price.

You buy a 30yr old vehicle of any type because you want it, not because it makes a strong value proposition. Realistically, you could get a used car that’s 5-10 years old for $8,500 that would run circles around that Benz in every facet. As a source of transportation, compared to modern options, it’s slow and crappy and expensive and smells bad.
It’s only worth what somebody is willing to pay, and you need to be into that kinda thing in the first place.

And that’s all my point was anyway. There’s no way a normal person would pay $8500 for an imported stick shift station wagon with mid-100k miles. But I would pay $8500 for that car, and actually might do so if my E39 BMW sells in time.

That article was the single dumbest thing I’ve read all day. The author is one of those insular city folk who doesn’t own a car and as such doesn’t think their should be as many lanes. We don’t all live in the same city we work in.
